9 months...

Happy 9 Months Boys!!
9 months old! Adam & Scott are NINE months old!!! Actually, as I start typing this it is 11:12 PM on the 23rd... Which means at this time 9 months ago, I was mid surgery, only moments away from the boys entering the world. I had no idea what to really expect, but it has been eye opening and AMAZING. The boys have so much personality. They are two of the funniest little people I've ever known, and I don't even think that's only because of my 'Mom-bias'... They are hilarious!

So the past month has been pretty great. My Mom and I took the boys to Disneyland, which was a ton of fun. I think I still need to do my Disney post, that's coming up! After that, we've just been spending time at home, and getting excited for spring to come. Sleep (don't I always talk about sleep??) has had improvements and regressions.... Nights aren't awful. The boys are still down by 7,  and sleep anywhere from 3-6 (which is rare) hours to start. We still have some nights where it seems like they're up constantly, and the occasional night with only (only??) 3-4 wakings. Adam is usually in bed with us by 5:30ish, and Scott sometimes joins around 6, but he's pretty good at staying asleep in his crib until 7! Naps have been a different story though. We had some really bad habits start and for the past few couple months, pretty much every single nap has been out of the house. Tons of hours put in with the stroller, or out on the road in their car seats. Sometimes they'll nap in bed with me in the mornings while nursing, but that's not a guaranteed way to get them to sleep, and with their new teeth... It's not very relaxing for me. I attempted crib naps today for the first time in forever and it didn't go terribly! They both slept in about 40 minute increments, with not much crying. I am ready to camp out at home for the next little while (as much as possible) and get this to be a normal thing. It was amazing being able to sit down without babies for a couple minutes at home, knowing they're resting just upstairs! I'm hoping it can translate into napping at other houses, it would be nice to be able to put them down for a nap at my their Grandparents' houses. Fingers crossed!

Both babies are teething like crazy, and that hasn't been much fun. We can tell they're uncomfortable, and they're constantly chewing on their fingers. Hopefully we get a break from it soon! The cold they were sick with last month lasted a little over a week, and it was pretty rough. I am so happy to say it's long gone and they are totally back to normal now. With Jamie and I being sick at the same time, that one week seemed to last forever. The last month has brought a huge increase in mobility! We have two crawlers, two babies pulling to stand (on everything) and two curious little minds who want to explore everything. Whenever I go out I get the 'you must have your hands full' comments... They have no idea! Twins should come with two extra arms, we need it. The babies are still little piggies, they love eating. We haven't introduced anything too exciting in the past month, but we're starting to venture out more for restaurant meals. It was a bit of a gray area for a while there. They were too big to sleep the entire time in their carseats, yet to young to sit for a full meal in a high chair. It's great now because we just give them some puffs and they will happily feed themselves those, or play with their toys. Pretty cute. We're still in size 3 diapers, and just about to move up from the 6 month clothing to the 9 month stuff. The shirts and sleepers are getting tight, and the pants are becoming flood pants! We've added brushing their teeth every night to the routine and they seem to enjoy it. They love playing in our new family room off of the kitchen, and are really starting to interact with each other, which I love. They are amazing little men, and they are growing way too fast. We have way more good times than bad times and I love them more than I can even begin to explain. How did I get this lucky??... Picture overload time!

Adam, Adam, Adam. He's such a sweet little guy. It's been a busy month for Big A, and he's been doing lots of new things! He had mastered a great 'scoot/pull' instead of a crawl but as of a few days ago, he is now on the same level as Scott with crawling like a big boy. Now we have two babies who love to get into anything and everything, fun! Adam loves dancing. If you have him on his back and he's in a good mood (which is pretty often!), he will totally groove along if you tell him to dance or if you clap. He also likes dancing after bites of food, it is adorable. He is still 'bababa-ing' and I am hoping it turns into 'mama' soon! I'll even take 'dada', if thats an easier transition for him. Coffee cups are his favourite toy still, and he's really starting to notice his little brother. He is (usually) a very willing speed-bump, because Scott loves to crawl over Adam all of the time. He has both of his bottom teeth, and is in the process of cutting three teeth on the top. When he cries in his crib, he likes it when I come in and just rest my hand on his back. He'll go silent instantly, but god forbid I try to leave before he's ready for me to sneak out. I think he'll always be a kid that needs a little bit of extra cuddles, which is fine by me. His hair is getting longer and longer, and he loves when you blow in his face. We love doing it because it blows his hair straight up, it's adorable. We have many slow motion videos of this happening! We've been using the Kolcraft stroller with the seats more often and he is a big fan of sitting with his legs up on the belly bar. Adam is a chill little guy. He is happy to sit still for a bit and take in the scene before really getting up and exploring. He is great with picking up his food and feeding himself, and when being spoon fed he likes to suck the food off of the spoon instead of just opening his mouth! He's adorable and I love him so much! Oh, and he always seems to lose a sock. Seriously - it is impossible to keep two socks on this kid!!

2 Months: 6 lbs, 12 oz
3 Months: 8 lbs, 13 oz
4 Months: 10 lbs, 8 oz

Scooty! Scott is the funniest little guy. He always is up to something, and he is constantly on the go! Scott recently started pulling himself up in his crib (as discovered at 3:30 AM) and so now both of the boys are much lower to the ground! He still pulls up, but at least I'm not worried about him falling out. Speaking of in the crib - After putting the babies to bed Jamie and I heard thumping coming from their room. Scott was kneeling in his crib chatting away and whacking the side. He then laid down and kicked his legs around for a while, before finally scooting all the way to the other side (kicking some more) and drifting off to sleep. I have a hilarious video from their crib naps today. Adam was asleep and Scott is 'EEEEE-ing' and blowing raspberries and doing pretty much whatever he can to wake up Adam. He eventually wedged a leg through the crib rails, so I had to intervene on his fun at that point. Scott is like a little ray of sunshine, as corny as that sounds. He has the most giant, wide, goofy smile, with his giant chompers on display. He has his two bottom teeth, 2 tops (one sprouted very recently) and two more on the top cutting right now! He loves getting into the dogs' food and water, and exploring the fridge. Any time we have it open, he will crawl over as fast as he can to check out what's in there. He loves kneeling and pulling himself up to stand and will happily shout 'eeeeeeeeee!' when he's up high, always holding on with only one hand of course! He has figured out how to climb up a single step, but not quite how to get back down yet. He is independent and easy to get to fall asleep on his own. He did a six hour stretch the other night, which was much appreciated. He loves eating and whacking his high chair while waiting for food. I know he'll be the instigator in the mischief him & Adam get up to, I can't wait. I love him so much!

8 short months

I swear I JUST posted the seven month update, what is going on here?? Of course I'm a week late too, but we just got back from DISNEYLAND! I'll have to post about that trip soon, it went great. For some reason, this one is hitting me hard. My boys can't be 8 months old yet, can they? Again, it seems like a million new things have happened in the past month. Teeth, crawling, pulling themselves up, our first plane ride together, finishing swimming lessons... so much has happened. So, like last month, here's the 'both babies' part. Sleep is about the same as last month, down at 7, up about twice a night, and we have some early risers lately. 7 AM is a major sleep-in for them. I am so happy that Jamie is more of a morning person than I am, because he gets up with the boys so I can get a little more sleep. Love that. They're both still in 6 month clothing, and we just recently graduated to size THREE diapers! They are both extremely squirmy, and it's usually pretty much impossible to change their diapers. They love rolling over to their tummies and making it as difficult as possible. Solids are going great, and the boys are both little piggies. They eat oatmeal every night, and then we give them mum mums, pieces of fruit, beans, chicken, puffs etc during the day. We are still doing our mall workouts, and I recently sold my Britax stroller and got a BOB! I am absolutely in love with it, best purchase ever. The boys nap like angels on walks, so I have been putting on at least 5K a day and getting out in the fresh air with the babies. We all love it! We're due for some snow this weekend, so I'm worried about being stuck in the house. Yikes. Naps simply don't happen at home. They're always either on the road, or in the stroller. We're going to have to start figuring out how to get them to nap at home, but I don't even know where to start....

They are such sweet boys. Even though we are in the middle of some extreme teething and our second cold, they are still about as happy as we could expect them to be. Mom and Dad can't wait for this cold to end though, they aren't normally quite this clingy, that's for sure! It's been a long couple of nights, hopefully not many more! They'll be a year old before we know it, I'm so sad at that. I kind of want them to stay this age forever!! I love them so much!!

Adam, my Mommy's boy! Adam is such a sweetheart, and loves cuddling. He is starting to realize that he should have been working on his crawling back when Scott started, so he's a little behind his brother with that respect. He can army crawl pretty well, but usually seems fairly content to stay in one spot. He loves eating, and is getting really good at feeding himself. It's amazing to see his little pincher grip working to get those puffs in his mouth. He was grinning at Scott when I was holding them close the other day, so I think he's finally starting to realize that he loves his little brother! He's recently started to enjoy squirting milk everywhere after he's finished nursing, which is no fun for me, but he seems to find it hilarious. Typical man! In the bath his main goal is to ensure that as much water as possible ends up outside of the tub, and achieves this by holding a washcloth and flinging it around with all of his might. He was a little bit slower with getting teeth, but BOTH bottom teeth have just sprouted in the past 24 hours. We can now feel them, but they're not really sticking out quite yet. Should be happening within a day or two. His new favourite toy is an empty coffee cup, he will play with one for close to an hour. He is starting to walk when we hold his hands, but tends to cross over his feet a little bit while doing so, he'll get it down soon. He is great at sitting, and overall just such a darling little guy. He is starting to babble, and loves going 'bababababa' at the top of his lungs, adorable!!

Scott, Scotty, Scoot! My little mover and shaker! This little guy is on the go, constantly! He has completely mastered crawling, and is flying around our house like a little maniac. He is now able to pull himself up to a kneeling position no problem, and quite often he will lean and stand. I think he'll be furniture walking before we know it. He is such an active, funny little guy, always grinning with his big dimples. He is into everything; The laundry basket, my nightstand, tables with magazines, the fridge.... You get the point. Time to baby-proof I guess! He has two giant chompers on the bottom, and I'm sure number 3 will be coming soon as well. He is a great eater, and can feed himself his puffs now too. He gets so excited for his mum-mum after dinner, it's adorable. He loves bathtime too, especially this little bath toy he plays with every night. He is very into 'peek-a-boo' and the mat by our back door. Jamie has a bit of a habit of leaving his sandals out (we do a lot of BBQing year round) and Scott is obsessed with them. He is such a sweet little guy, and catching up to 'big bro' in the weight dept. So proud of him!

Time needs to slow down just a bit!!

Just a quick update here! The boys will be 8 months old next week (I should get started on that post now...) but in the meantime, new things keep happening!

We had been seeing little buds under the boys' gums for quite a while. Last week after swimming, Scott's mouth had what almost looked like a little indent in it. Within a couple of hours, we could feel a tooth! Hard, pointy, razor sharp.... I was instantly terrified as a nursing Mother! And there it was, his first tooth, which popped out on February 14th 2014. So proud of my little guy. He wasn't that awful during the first tooth, and I wasn't really expecting it. Today we see another indent where there was a white bud, so I think number two is coming any day now. I miss the gummy smiles already. Adam doesn't quite have his first tooth yet, but the way he's been sleeping lately, I don't think it will be long now.
Little indent, tooth came that day!
Yep, it's a tooth!
Almost #2!

We also have a crawler on our hands! Scott started crawling a few days ago. Both babies have been scooting like crazy for a while, but they usually went faster going backwards than forwards. Scott had been up and rocking on his knees for a couple weeks, but never was able to figure out that you need to move your hands too in order to get anywhere. Well, he finally figured it out this last weekend, and little man is on the move! It's not the most graceful thing in the world, and it's harder on a slippery tile floor, but he's worked it out. Hand, hand, leg, leg. He usually throws in a plank of some sort along the way, but he's got it. So proud. Adam is up and rocking, but hasn't figured out the hands yet. Maybe little bro Scott will teach him the secret soon. New in the past couple days for both babies is that they are now 'walking' when we hold their hands! Before they would just stand there, now they love 'walking' themselves around the house, it's so adorable.
"See you later, Mom!" (Scott)

Next up, my Mom and I are taking the boys to Disneyland! Jamie is going to enjoy sleeping through the night for a few days, and we're doing a Nana, Mommy, and Babies getaway. We're looking forward to getting a lot of walking in, doing some people watching, and maybe trying out a few rides. There are actually a lot of slow rides the boys can go on, I am looking forward to seeing their little faces on Dumbo, a ride I went on when I was 6 months old myself! I am a little nervous for the flight, but I think they'll do just fine. Can't wait!

I love my boys so much!! Things are so fun right now, and while I can't wait to see who they become, I want them to stay itty bitty forever.

The boys are seven months old!!!

A few days late, but here we go! 7 short (or long - depending on the type of day!!) months have passed since Adam & Scott entered the world! Before I know it, we'll be celebrating their first birthday :( Life is still trucking along, and the boys are growing and thriving. It seems like they learn something new every couple days, I can't keep up with them anymore!

Okay, so first - a follow up to my last post. Things were going awful in their own room. I'm talking hourly wake ups, at least. It would take numerous tries (of transferring them asleep after nursing) to get them to stay asleep in their cribs, and they would be up constantly. Starting close to a week ago, we are 'sleep training' out of desperation. I hate the term 'sleep training'. We're not trying to make them abide by 'our' schedules. We just want them to be able to fall asleep without movement or a boob in their mouths, and to stay asleep. I guess we're loosely following the Ferber Method. We're checking in at certain intervals (more than what they suggest actually), to comfort and soothe. We're on night 6, and it's getting a lot easier. Both babies are falling asleep really fast, and although Adam has had a 'not wanting to stay asleep' issue, Scott has been mostly sleeping like a rock, aside from waking for feedings around 1 and 4.  We're not fully there yet (although I'm not expecting them to sleep through the night!) but it's been a huge improvement. I still bring the babies in bed with me in the morning, I love my cuddles. It's actually nice too, they used to have to be latched anytime they were in bed with us, but now they will just sleep in between Jamie and I. Either way, we made the jump (which was a hard one to make!!) and I really think letting them cry a little bit was the right thing to do. We were all overtired. The boys were crabby, I was crabby, it sucked. Hoping the improvements continue from here!

Okay, back to the update! Because the boys are getting so different, I think I'm going to switch this up a bit and first put what applies to both, and then put specific stuff about each baby under their own updates. So lets see, both boys have graduated to 6 month clothing, and are still in size 2 diapers. They have started solids, and both of them LOVE eating. They are such little piggies. We've been doing purees mainly so far, but they've also had baby mum mums (rice rusks) and tried gumming on apples and steamed carrots etc. In the past month, we've started swimming lessons! Both boys are a little unsure, but seem to enjoy it enough. The best part for them is hanging on to the little rubber duckies they get to 'swim' after and chewing on them. We are also doing mall workouts every Tuesday, and sometimes they're good boys and actually sleep through it! There has actually only been one time I need to hold a baby (Scott!!) and I just chalk it up to him wanting me to get a little bit of an extra burn, what a sweet boy.

They have another potential role in a made for TV movie, we're just waiting to hear if they are keeping the baby part or if they're not needed. Hopefully they get it! We go for long walks at least a few times a week, and that's a great way to get them to nap. Jamie has also started taking them for drives in order to get them to sleep... Naps are not our friend right now!! No toothies yet, but I think one must be coming soon. They had their most recent checkup earlier this month and they are both healthy as horses, and right about where they should be for their 'actual' age vs their 'adjusted age'. Still breastfed, and still refusing bottles! I'm going to have to find something to do with 300 oz of frozen breastmilk, yikes. They have been in their own room now for at least a couple weeks, and we sold the extra crib. It's amazing to have my nightstand back! Overall, time is flying by way too fast, and I'm more than half way through my maternity leave, NOOOO!!! Slow down time, just a bit.

Okay, now for each of my little men!

Adam
Birth: 3 lbs, 15 oz
1 Month: 5 lbs, 5 oz
2 Months: 7 lbs, 6 oz
3 Months: 9 lbs, 12 oz
4 Months: 11 lbs, 10 oz
5 Months: 13 lbs, 8 oz
6 Months: 14 lbs, 2 oz
7 Months: 15 lbs, 3 oz

Adam, my big guy! Adam is a very handsy baby. He isn't too interested in crawling (yet), but will manipulate things with his hands and loves to sit in the exersaucer and grab on to numerous toys at once and try to rip them all off. He is very talkative and loves to squeal. I love him, but I threaten him with bottles on a daily basis, because he finds it funny to clamp down while eating and pull away his head as fast as he can. Not very nice! I honestly think he finds it funny. His hair is growing like crazy (blonde!!), and sticks straight up on his head. When eating his dinner, he loves to hold his spoon in between bites and 'feed himself'. His thumb/forefinger grip is getting really great,  and it's adorable watching him bring his mum mums into his mouth. He has a HUGE smile and laughs like crazy when I sing 'hands up' and throw his arms up over his head. He has recently discovered his feet, and is obsessed with them. He can sit up in the tripod pose, but isn't all that interested in getting to that position on his own. Would rather hang out on his tummy or back. He's a major cuddle bug, and not overly fond of Scott! I'm hoping they're friends soon, because right now, he mostly just cries when Scott gets in his personal space. Although they still do hold hands while tandem feeding, occasionally.

Scott:
Birth: 3 lbs, 9 oz

2 Months: 6 lbs, 12 oz
3 Months: 8 lbs, 13 oz
4 Months: 10 lbs, 8 oz
5 Months: 12 lbs, 8 oz
6 Months: 13 lbs, 8 oz
7 Months: 14 lbs, 11 oz

Scotty, my little man! Scott is my little mover and shaker! He is impossible to keep on his back, and loves to squirm onto his stomach during diaper changes. He is learning how to crawl, and I think it will be officially happening very soon. He spends most of his time on his hands and knees, rocking back and forth. He's figured out that he needs to move his back legs, now he just needs to get the hands going at the same time, and he'll be all set! He can manage to get around by lifting his body into an upside down V and kind of throwing himself forward. It's not pretty, but it works! He is so focused though, he'll get it before I know it. He's been a pretty good sleeper (although right now I can see him flopping around at 11:15PM, go to sleep child!) now that we put him down on his tummy. He always crams his body into the corner of his crib, and we've ordered Wonder Bumpers, because we hear far too many 'bonks' of his head as he's getting comfortable. He is very impatient at dinner time and will get quite upset if he's not fed fast enough. How dare we take a bite of our own food?? He is still obsessed with the jolly jumper, and can get going pretty good in there. He tries to be friends with his big bro, and hopefully one day soon Adam will feel the same way, haha! He gets plenty of Mommy snuggles at least. His favourite song is 'wheels on the bus' and sometimes it's the best way to get him to stop while crying. He has a very wide smile, and his hair is starting to grow, just a little slower than Adam's.
